Ian Ipolitto is an essential Tampa Bay WaVE board member and his company vWorker makes us look pretty good too. vWorker connects over 178,000 businesses to remote experts in hundreds of fields (such as programmers, designers and writers). It saves them 36%-80% over traditional hiring and also protects them better with monitoring of worker desktops and a money-back guarantee. It also allows over 350,000 people to work from home, choose what they work on and set their own hours. That's a pretty huge reach we are quite proud of.
Entrepreneur magazine called vWorker “one of the 100 most brilliant companies on our radar’. It is a four time consecutive winner of the Inc. 5000 "fastest growing private company in the U.S.” award. It has also been featured on CBS and FOX news, the Wall Street Journal, Business Week, Fast-Company and many other broadcasts, publications and journals.
Ian came up with this concept while heading another business called PlanetSourceCode.com in 2001. He found an overwhelming number people begging to pay him to help them with their programs, but just had no time. "After turning down one too many, I realized there was a need that was not being met. I thought that if I could create a site that would connect the parties, but somehow do it in a way that guaranteed both parties would be protected (if they acted in good faith) that it could solve the problem. I created the prototype during a long plane ride back from Italy, and had it up and running about a month later." Wow, what a motivated guy!
In the future Ian plans to expand vWorker, "We’ll be continuing our huge site-wide usability revamp as well as expanding into other countries and languages. Finally we’ll be rolling out 'vWorker consulting' where people can hire our super experienced team to work on their projects." Ian never stops thinking what's next. This is why his company is so successful and continues to grow.
Of course I had to ask his thoughts on the Tampa Bay Tech Community as he is such a great example of what Tampa is capable of. "I am so grateful to be here in Tampa and not on the West coast. Everything is so much cheaper, from rent to hiring talent and if I had done it on the other coast I would have been forced to take venture capital and would not have maintained control of the company. And the weather and lifestyle are so much more livable and enjoyable than Boston."
Ian loves his business and his City. He is an excellent business man and we will always be lucky to have him on our board.
